6th FORM COURSES

Tom Brown was Head of Art at Fenton 6th Form College and has taught A level Art & Design successfully for over thirty years. For many of those years the student’s exam grades were in the top 5% in the UK and no student under his instruction has ever failed. A high percentage of Ofsted inspections graded his lessons as ‘Excellent”

At White Fountain Studio we are offering a field course for groups of A level Art & Design students aimed at enhancing their existing A level studies and hopefully improving grades.

The actual content of the course, the number of days and the time of year depends on your requirements but below are some suggestions that may help.

CONTENT
We can deliver a special course designed to be the basis of an AS or A2 module. The project has the advantage of research in a totally new and stimulating environment here in Spain. We would also like to work on developing the ideas and making a plan which enables the student to complete the full module on their return to the UK.

Depending on the students the course can be as structured or as open ended as requested by art staff. The subject matter will not necessarily be based on Spanish themes but rather rely on the new environment to provide the stimulus, we are looking for a much more open and varied response.

We can deliver courses which focus in particular subject areas eg. life drawing, working towards abstraction or landscape…….

We are happy to work in conjunction with art staff on developing a project which has been generated at the college or school.

We are sensitive to individual student’s ways of working from traditional to conceptual, from conventional to experimental.

NUMBER OF DAYS

This is a great opportunity to focus on artwork in a supportive atmosphere therefore the more days the better. Five working days is a good balance but we can work as required.

We understand the restrictions on A level students with regard to time away from other subjects so we are happy to be flexible with timing by trying to work over a weekend or tagged on to a holiday period if necessary.

TIME OF YEAR

We are open to any suggestions but we experience the best weather between May and September.

We are fully aware of the demands on time at crucial times of year by examinations and indeed the timing of the start of modules. June/July has the advantage of being relatively free of other commitments and a good time to start the next project.

For students with heavy commitments in other subject areas this is an ideal opportunity. Towards the end of the AS year (June/July) an art field course could provide research and development work for the first A2 module which could then be completed independently during the summer vacation.

Whatever time of year you would like, it is necessary to check availability first.
