The tutor
Tom Brown is a practising artist who has exhibited in
the UK and has work in private collections throughout the UK and
Europe. He has many years of experience teaching both young and
mature students with excellent results and he still has a real
passion for ‘lighting people’s creative fire.’

COURSE
Life drawing and painting
Life drawing is still a very effective way of educating the eye
and developing drawing skills and for this reason has always
been an essential part of an artist’s training. Using life
models we will cover practical aspects of drawing and painting
the figure. This is a great course for beginners who want to
develop their drawing skills in an intensive way and also for
the more experienced who want to focus on this sort of work in a
quiet supportive environment. Life drawing and painting is
totally absorbing and quite addictive. To pay for the models
there is an additional charge on this course of £35 or 50 euros
for the week.
Looking at Landscape
We are situated in the midst of the most dramatic and varied
landscape. Within the valley we have the harsh jagged rocks of
the mountains and all around the studio on steep hillsides are
extensive almond and olive terraces dotted with the ruins of old
casitas. The beautiful village of Tarbena and the quiet hamlet
of Casivanyes are both very close and with the addition of an
architectural element these are subjects with exciting visual
possibilities. We can start the week by covering the
fundamentals of landscape painting at the studio and then spend
most of our time learning by painting and drawing at various
sites nearby. Traditional techniques of oil and acrylics
painting are taught but experiment is also encouraged. We are
very happy to teach from beginner to experienced and from
traditional to abstract. We are totally flexible and open to
your requirements so the course content is always likely to be
different.
Experimental and Abstract painting
- nearly the most fun you can have with your clothes on! For
many people the world of abstract painting is something of a
mystery. To move beyond simply having to imitate the world of
nature can be a liberating experience. It is an opportunity to
be original and truly creative. Over recent courses we have had
a number of people who specifically want to explore this area.
Through practical work and discussion we can unlock some of the
mysteries and develop a way of thinking which allows you to work
with understanding and direction. This is not a separate course
but an approach for those who wish to try it on any of the above
courses.
RESIDENTIAL PAINTING HOLIDAYS
These
art courses provide 6 days full board at White Fountain studio,
running from Sun pm to the following Sat am.
This includes breakfast, evening meals and lunch
with wine or drinks.
There are 5 days of tuition. We finish mid
afternoon leaving you free after lunch to continue working in
the studio or to have time for yourself relaxing or
exploring the area.
The max. number of residential students is 8.
Non painting partners are also welcome at a 15%
reduced rate.
Guests are welcome to extend their stay if they
wish at normal accommodation rates.
NON
RESIDENTIAL ART COURSES
Ideally
suited to people who live in Spain.

They
are 5 day courses from Monday to Friday.

We
follow the same course content and format as the residential
painting holidays

The
day starts at 9.30 am and finishes at 3.00 pm and includes a
light lunch with drinks.

have small groups of students with a minimum of 4 and a max.
of 10.

happy to create an art course tailor made to suit your requirements
at a time that suits you.

for 2 or more residential guests or 5 or more non residential

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED
We have a purpose built studio with all basic equipment. You can
paint in any media you choose.
TRANSPORTING PAINTS BY AIR –
Because of security regulations we advise that you carry all
your equipment in your hold luggage not your hand luggage. It is
not permitted to carry solvents in your luggage so we have
turpentine and brush cleaning solvents in the studio
Paints
You can bring whatever paints you are happy with. You can opt to
use our selection of oil paints at a charge of £10 or 15
euros for the week
A selection of brushes
Sketch book
is recommended.
Canvas or boards
Transport is the issue, so you will know yourself what you can
comfortably bring if you are travelling by air. A tube can be a
good way of transporting unstretched canvas.
Digital camera
If
you have one they are a great way of collecting information
