OTHER ACTIVITIES
at White Fountain Studio

For those who need more than a glass of wine and meditational ecstasy, the surrounding area is suitable for a wide variety of activities.

Mountain walking  –  the scenery here is spectacular and walking is available at different grades of difficulty. Either walk independently or with a guide. Tom is a qualified mountain leader. We are happy to accommodate small groups or larger walking clubs.  Please contact us for more details.

Paragliding  –  There are flying sites for the both beginners and experienced pilots. Col de Rates (3000ft) is directly behind the house and there are spectacular coastal sites for the more experienced and the highest site, Aitana (5000ft) is 20 kms further inland. Tom and Liz have been flying and involved with paragliding and hand gliding since 1990. Professional and qualified instruction for beginners can be arranged in conjunction with Airways airsports.  Contact Chief Instructor Chris Dawes at airways.airsports@virgin.net

History and traditions of the area  -  The people of Tarbena are special. 400 years ago when the Moors had to leave, 6 families were brought in from Majorca to repopulate the village bringing their language and customs with them. Those families are still the main stay of Tarbena and maintain strong links with Majorca speaking a unique version of Valenciano with a Majorcan dialect. This area was the last place inhabited by the Moors and was also a troubled area in the Spanish Civil war. The evidence of a traditional way of life and of a rich and varied history is all around. Most of the local towns hold a Moors and Christians Fiesta at different times of the year and the main three day fiesta in Tarbena is Santa Barbara at the beginning of August.

Climbing  –  This area is a Mecca for rock climbers many of whom have retired here in climbing heaven. Choose from the impressive Penan Ifach at Calpe rising 1000ft out of the sea to the endless limestone crags and high mountain routes throughout the area.

Caving  –  The whole area is limestone and there are lots of known caves and possibilities for further exploration.

Diving  -  Good diving is available at Moraira, Altea and Calpe. The coast is only 40 minutes away from Font Blanca.

Birds and Wild flowers  -  Being a limestone area there is a large variety of birds and wild flowers.  May and June are the best months to see a wide variety of species of both.

Partners who do not feel the need for such energetic pastimes are also very welcome. They can sit in the sun with a book and that glass of wine or two and simply relax and soak up the atmosphere.
